What is RegeNer8?

The N8 Centre for Translational Regenerative Medicine (regeNer8) is one of the five collaborative research centres that have been established by N8 through the Northern Way initiative, to promote scientific, social and economic development starting in the North of England and reaching globally.

The North of England is strongly positioned in Europe as a centre of research excellence in regenerative medicine, leveraging a cluster that uniquely encompasses both stem cell science and tissue engineering. The collaborative regional approach has demonstrably added considerable value to this emergent sector. Backed by the N8, regeNer8 will continue to advance the development of tools and technologies to accelerate therapies through to clinic.

Encompassing the Universities of Newcastle, Durham, York, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster, the Centre is hosted by the University of Leeds and managed by a partnership between BITECIC and CBSL.

To date regeNer8 has directly funded nine important research grants which we continue to manage.

Hosting facilitated workshops and actively brokering funding for research , regeNer8 focuses on the tools and technologies arena that underpins the task of bringing therapies forward. We act as a portal for industry, playing our part in growing and consolidating the regenerative medicine community and linking it with the power of the N8 research facilities.

Crucially, regeNer8 is working with other to eliminate market barriers identified in our industry partners:

  • Safety and regulatory issues
  • Investment and funding and defining the value chain and business model
  • Creating and developing the regenerative medicine supply chain
