£70 million boost for UK manufacturing - Government funding for Regenerative Medicines

7 Jan 2010
The HealthTech and Medicines KTN welcomes today’s announcement by Lord Mandelson that the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) will invest £5.3 million over the next five years in a Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Regenerative Medicine at Loughborough University. The centre will also receive £3 million from 28 industrial and government partners.

Regenerative Medicine has been heralded by the KTN as a strategic area for the UK which, with appropriate investment, can secure our position as a global leader in a newly emerging industry within healthcare. The KTN will be an active participant in the Centre and will use our strong networking links with business and government to help drive outputs which are commercially relevant and adoptable.

In addition this investment in the new Centre is aligned with the recommendation to encourage Centres of Excellence in Bioprocessing Research, which was announced in the Bioscience Innovation and Growth Team Review and Refresh of Bioscience 2015 report published in January 2009.
